LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech volleyball athletes Janelle Jones and Ebony Smith were named to the Big 12 conference All-Academic First Team the conference announced today.

Jones is a senior from Denver, Colo., majoring in family studies. Smith, a junior from Duncanville, Texas, majors in management information systems.

The members of the Academic team are nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and media relations offices. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.2 or better grade-point average, while the second team members have between a 3.0 and 3.19. The athletes must have participated in 60 percent of her team's scheduled events. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence
