LUBBOCK, Texas - Entering his second season as Texas Tech head coach, Tom Stone announced the 2008 soccer schedule today, which included in-state rivals Texas and Texas A&M as part of the Red Raiders' 10 home matches.

Following two preseason matches at home against West Texas A&M and North Texas, the Red Raiders open the regular season Aug. 22 against Lamar University. The match will be the first at Tech's new soccer facility, which is expected to be completed by the season opener.

Tech opens Big 12 play just a week later against the Colorado Buffaloes on Aug. 29, which will be the earliest conference opener for the Red Raiders since 1999 when Tech opened the season against Nebraska on Aug. 27.

After an Aug. 31 match at Texas-San Antonio, the Red Raiders travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. to face both Middle Tennessee State (Sept. 5) and Alabama A&M (Sept 7). Tech closes the non-conference portion of its schedule with three-consecutive home matches against Arizona (Sept. 12), Northwestern State (Sept. 14) and Oral Roberts (Sept. 18).

The Red Raiders resume Big 12 play Sept. 26 in Stillwater, Okla., against the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, before returning to Lubbock to face Oklahoma on Sept. 28.

The following weekend Tech travels to take-on Kansas (Oct. 3) and Missouri (Oct. 5), who both finished just ahead of Tech last season in the conference standings at third and fourth, respectively.

Following the third annual "Battle for the Brand" match against Baylor in Lubbock on Oct. 10, the Texas Longhorns, the reigning Big 12 Championship winner, arrive in Lubbock on Oct. 12 for a 1 p.m. match.

After another weekend trip to the Big 12 North to square off against Nebraska (Oct. 19) and Iowa State (Oct. 19), Tech closes the conference portion of its schedule against national-power Texas A&M on Oct. 24, in Lubbock, before wrapping up the regular season against TCU on Oct. 26.

"When you play in the Big 12, you already have a built in national level schedule because of the quality of the teams in our league," Stone said. "We feel that we have added a non-conference slate that will be challenging to our young team and hopefully prepare us for when conference play kicks off in October."

All Tech soccer matches will be played at the new soccer facility located off the Texas Tech Parkway. For ticket information, call (806) 742-TECH or 1-888-GO-BIG12 or visit Texas Tech's official website, texastech.com.
