LUBBOCK, Texas - Coming off an impressive road victory to open Big 12 play at Colorado, the Texas Tech soccer team dropped a close match to No. 6 Texas, 1-0, Sunday in Austin. The loss drops the Red Raiders to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in Big 12 Conference play.

For the third consecutive match, the Red Raiders and their opponent entered halftime tied at nil. The loss is Tech's first loss on the season when tied at the half.

"I would say it was quite a weekend for the girls," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "The win over Colorado was obviously huge and to be able to follow that up 48 hours later with a strong performance against a top 10 team was pretty impressive."

Backed by junior goalkeeper Tina Rincon's seven saves, the Red Raiders held the Longhorns to one goal for the first time since 1999 when Texas was shutout at R.P. Fuller Stadium.

Caitlin Kennedy scored Texas' only goal off a Niki Arlitt pass. It was Kennedy's first goal this season.

The Red Raiders were once again led by sophomore Maegan Wilber, who had three shots in the match. Wilber scored the game-winning goal against Colorado.

"We are gutted to have lost at Texas, but are at the same time encouraged that we brought home three points from the weekend against two of the top programs in the Big 12," Stone said.

Statistically, Texas out-shot Tech, 22-6, while the Red Raiders out-numbered the Longhorns, 5-3, in corner kicks.

Tech returns to R.P. Fuller Stadium for four straight matches beginning Fri., Oct. 5, against No. 20 Missouri. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
