Larry Munger currently serves as an assistant athletic trainer for the Texas Tech athletic department. Specifically, he is the trainer for the Tech Tennis teams and also works with the Red Raider softball team. Munger has an extensive background in education and in professional experience as a trainer. He received his bachelor of science in education and sport science with an emphasis in athletic training from the University of Kansas. He proceeded to obtain his master's at the Arizona School of Health Science and is currently working on a doctor of philosophy, family and consumer science education at Tech. He is a certified athletic trainer and clinical instructor educator by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification, Inc.; a licensed athletic trainer by the Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers through the Texas Department of Health; a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association; and a certified CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer for the American Red Cross. In addition to NATA and NSCA, he is a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association and American College of Sports Medicine. Munger began his career as a student athletic trainer at Baker University in 1993 and for the University of Kansas from 1994-1995. In 1997, he was a certified athletic trainer for the Seattle Mariners during their extended spring training. Immediately following, he was the assistant athletic trainer for the NFL Europe League which included sports medicine coverage, insurance claims management, and computer tracking for the football team during the four-month season in Europe. In late 1998 and leading through the 2001 season, he was the assistant athletic trainer/rehabilitation specialist for the Major League Soccer league's Kansas City Wizards. He continued to work vigorously as a sports athletic trainer in the years following and came to Tech in May of 2002. In August of 2003, he served as a volunteer USOC medical program volunteer and ATC at the Olympic Training Center covering volleyball, wrestling and the sports treatment center when not attending practices. He is married to assistant strength and conditioning coach Katie Munger. |
