Oct. 25, 1997 Red Raiders Upset Texas A&M, 16-13LUBBOCK, Texas - Tony Rogers' third field goal of the game, a 47-yarder with 19 seconds remaining, lifted Texas Tech to a 16-13 Big 12 Conference victory over 21st-ranked Texas A&M. After Texas A&M's Brandon Stewart tied the score at 13-13 with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Leroy Hodge with 5:51 to play, the Red Raiders (4-3, 3-1 Big 12 South) embarked on a 14-play, 51-yard drive that culminated with Rogers' field goal. Rogers, a senior, had lost his starting job to Jaret Greaser in the middle of last season but was back in the lineup after Greaser suffered a broken right leg in the first quarter of last week's 29-0 loss to Nebraska. Texas Tech has won three straight meetings with the Aggies for the first time since 1982-84 and snapped a six-game losing streak to ranked foes since defeating then-number eight Texas A&M in 1995. The Raiders are now tied for the South Division lead with Oklahoma State, which lost in double overtime to Missouri today. Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2) has dropped consecutive games after beginning the year with five wins in a row. The Aggies still lead the all-time series, 31-24-1.
