SETTING THE SCENE
This weekend will be key for the Red Raiders if they hope to advance to the 2008 Big 12 Championship at Bricktown Ballpark in late May. Only the top eight teams receive bids to the conference tournament and the Red Raiders will be in looking for its first bid to the tourney since 2006. Oklahoma and Texas Tech rank ninth and 10th respectively in the current Big 12 standings. The Red Raiders (20-23; 5-13) will be riding a wave of momentum into the series as Tech has won its last three games by a combined margin of 47-16. Tech salvaged the series finale against Kansas State on Sunday (19-4) and then swept New Mexico State in the midweek by scores of 12-2 and 16-10. Oklahoma comes into the weekend with a 26-16-1 overall record and a 4-10-1 mark in league play. The Sooners defeated TCU 11-6 on Tuesday but fell to Southern Nazarene 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon. All three games of the Oklahoma series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Matt Miller calling the action live from Dan Law Field. Live audio and video will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com.
