SETTING THE SCENE
The Red Raiders (12-11; 2-4 Big 12) saw their streak of five-straight midweek wins come to an end on Tuesday afternoon as Tech suffered an 8-6 setback to UC-Riverside. Tech had to win in the bottom of the ninth on Monday evening on a wild pitch to take a 5-4 win over the Highlanders and had their chances again in the ninth on Tuesday but could not convert. The squad will be in search of its first Big 12 series win of the 2008 season this weekend as Tech has dropped its last two league series to No. 22 Texas A&M and No. 13 Texas (both 1-2 series losses). The Missouri Tigers moved all the way up to No. 2 in the national rankings on Monday after an impressive three-game sweep of then 14th-ranked Baylor. Missouri shutout the Bears in the first two games of the series while starters Aaron Crow (Friday) and Kyle Gibson (Sunday) threw complete games. Missouri gave up just two unearned runs on Sunday and finished off the Bears with a 12-2 run-rule game that ended after seven innings. The Tigers split a midweek series with Minnesota. All three games of the Missouri series will be carried live on the Texas Tech Sports Network (KKAM 1340 in Lubbock) with Robert Giovannetti and Matt Miller calling the action live from Dan Law Field. Live audio and video will be available on the official website of Texas Tech Athletics, www.texastech.com. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH or at the Dan Law Field Box Office on game day.
