  • Texas Tech snapped its four-game losing skid in the Houston College Classic by posting a 7-3 win over the Tennessee Volunteers. Prior to tonight, Tech's last win in the tournament was a 9-4 win over Ohio State on Feb. 15, 2004. The Red Raiders now have a 5-9 all-time record here at Minute Maid Park.
  • Texas Tech now holds a 1-0 advantage against the Tennessee Volunteers as tonight marked the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. Texas Tech has now won three straight games against the Southeastern Conference as Tech won a pair of games against Mississippi State in the 2004 NCAA Regional at Georgia Tech.
  • Junior right fielder Roger Kieschnick belted the 25th home run of his career in the top of the fourth inning. He finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and earned his fourth multiple-hit game of the season.
  • Joey Kenworthy turned in his second consecutive multiple-RBI game (third of his career) as he went 1-for-4 with a two RBIs. On Friday against Houston, he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
  • Sophomore RHP Nate Karns (1-0) picked up his first career win and according to the stadium radar gun, he registered fastball readings of 98 mph on several occasions.
  • Texas Tech Head Coach Larry Hays is now 13 wins away from his 1,500th career victory and eight wins away from No. 800 while serving as the skipper of the Red Raiders.
