ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - New Mexico's Jacob Norton held Texas Tech scoreless over six innings and Brian Cavazos-Galvez went 3-for-4 with a home run to lead the Lobos to a 7-3 win over the Red Raiders on Wednesday afternoon at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque.

The loss drops Texas Tech 2-3 on the season while New Mexico improves to 5-0.

After going down in order in the first inning, the New Mexico offense got to Tech starter Russ Fornea as they pounded out four runs on four hits to grab an early 4-0 lead. Drew McDonald got the Lobos on the board with a solo home run to left and Brian Cavazos-Galvez quickly made the lead 3-0 with a two-run homer to left.

Trailing 7-0 in the top of the seventh, Texas Tech finally got on the board as Roger Kieschnick reached on a leadoff double and Jason Seefeld drove him home with a two-RBI homer to left field. The home run marked his first of the season and his fifth and sixth RBIs of the year.

Seefeld plated the final run of the game for the Red Raiders in the top of the ninth as he reached on a leadoff double and then scored on an RBI groundout by Monk Kreder. Seefeld paced the Tech offense on the afternoon as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Russ Fornea (1-0) was charged with the loss for the Red Raiders as he gave up five runs on eight hits over three innings of work. Jacob Norton (1-0) earned the win for New Mexico as he held the Red Raiders to just two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings of work.
 

 

Texas Tech returns to action on Friday afternoon as the Red Raiders will face the Houston Cougars at 3:30 p.m. at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
