AT GROSSMONT JUNIOR COLLEGE Enrolled at Grossmont Junior College in the fall of 2000….played under coaches Ed Olsen, Randy Abshier and Corry Johnson…as a team Grossmont tallied a two-year record of 64-25 and won back-to-back conference championships…was a First-Team All-Conference selection and tallied a two-year record of 16-4 with a 2.75 ERA…his final season at Grossmont, he went 9-2 and tallied an ERA of 2.69 through 110 1/3 innings of work…struckout 91 batters and pitched one complete game.
HIGH SCHOOL Played varsity baseball under head coach Ernie Reyes at Mount Miguel High School in Spring Valley, Calif…was his team’s Most Valuable Player and earned First-Team All-Conference honors and was a Second-Team All-San Diego selection…his senior year he went 8-2 with a 2.99 ERA while batting .417.
PERSONAL Born on September 24, 1982 to parents Jeff and Silver Karstens…has two younger siblings…sister Jamie (14) and brother Jordan (6)….currently majoring in Communication Studies at Texas Tech with a minor in Spanish…enjoys fishing and going to the beach in his spare time.
