Finished the season as the third-leading hitter on the squad with a .317 average...started all 54 games that he played in over the course of the 55-game season...tallied 64 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 35 RBIs...led the squad with 20 multiple hit games and finished second with 10 multiple RBI games...IN BIG 12 PLAY; led the Red Raiders with a .337 average...finished with 33 hits, seven doubles, one triple, one home run and 14 RBIs...one of three true freshmen to make a start in the season opening series against Stephen F. Austin. Started both games as the designated hitter...made his first position start of the season against New Mexico on Feb. 2 as he got the nod in center field...picked up his first career home run in the fifth inning as part of a back-to-back effort between him and teammate Chris Hall...hit safely in all four games of the Red Raider Classic (Feb. 9-12)...finished the weekend with a .400 average (6-of-15) along with a double and four RBI...extended his hit streak to nine games with hits in all three games of the Midland College Classic (Feb. 16-18)...hit .500 in the three-game tournament and added four RBI...tallied a .417 average (5-of-12) against Nebraska in the Big 12 opening three-game series...was second on the team behind Kyle Martin's .429 clip...hit .385 in the weekend series at Kansas State (5-of-13)...posted a season-high three doubles in the series finale on Sunday...led the Red Raiders in the weekend series at Missouri...totaled a .583 average (7-of-12) along with three RBIs.

HIGH SCHOOL
Wrapped up a stellar high school career with the Monterey Plainsmen in the spring of the 2006...was All-State selection all three years at Monterey including earning Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-American status his senior season...earned All-District, All-City and All-South Plains honors all three years of high school...following his senior year he was selected to participate in the THSBCA (Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association) All-Star Game where he played center field for the North...hit .388 as a sophomore, .447 as a junior and .371 as a senior...owns the MHS school record for hits in a single-season (68) and hits in a career (160)...on the football field, he played quarterback for the Plainsmen and led them to the second round of the playoffs in 2005...in the classroom, Ashby ranked seventh out of 475 seniors at Monterey and served as class president his sophomore, junior and senior years...voted "Top Plainsmen" his sophomore and senior years...coached at Monterey by Fred Oliver.

Born July 27, 1987 in Lubbock, Texas...son of Gary and Terri Ashby...father, Gary, served as the head baseball coach at Texas Tech between 1984 and 1986 and is a former All-American at Tech as he spent his entire career (1974-77) on the diamond for the Red Raiders...his father was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Honor in 1999...mother Terri is also a graduate of Texas Tech and is a school teacher...has twin sisters, Amy and Angie...enjoys watching movies, reading and taking road trips...his personal goal is to help lead Texas Tech to the College World Series in Omaha...majoring in business.
