LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech cross country sensation Sally Kipyego will be honored at the Lady Raider basketball game against Texas on Sun., Jan. 20, at 5 p.m. in the United Spirit Arena. The Red Raider was recently announced as the Honda Award winner for the nation's top female cross country runner for the second-consecutive year. Kipyego is only the fourth student-athlete to repeat the award in any sport. She not only defended her title, but became Texas Tech's only consecutive national champion. Kipyego will be presented the award during the four-minute media timeout during the first half of the basketball game. After her recognition, Kipyego will be signing autographs on the west side concourse level of the arena. The award is given annually to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, along with automatic nomination for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. Athletes who win the Honda Award are nominated for the prestigious Honda-Broderick Cup recognizing the nation's top overall female athlete. Joining Kipyego at the award ceremony will be the Big 12 Associate Commissioner Dru Hancock, and Texas Women's Athletics Director Chris Plonsky, a member of the Honda Award Council.
